Ok, the hardest thing is to proceed blogging ))) so, just the second day of Zhitomir archive work skipped. This day was really hard because of the huge amount of the materials to check:
1. Notary books. We have proceeded to ‘digitalize’ all the Notary books and any possible Jewish Family names we could find there.
2. Census Tales (Registers lists) 1816 – one of the first records of such kind available to search in at the territory of the modern Ukraine.
So, let me explain in short words why doest it hard to work with this Census 1816:
– hard handwritten. Even if the person who knows Russian (and it is his native language) can hardly to read these records. Because of the old style of the handwritten. Because of the old style of the words. Because of plenty of misprints in the text. But we can)) but it takes long time to recognize the record entry)))
– really bad condition of the books. I think it is quite OK for the books were covered in the archive for 200 years. Most of them are pretty good. But not all of them. Some records are damaged and we need to check it for a long time to understand
