Jewish History of Kanev
At Kanev city the Jewish settlement was founded at the end of 17th century. The first Jewish population at Kanev was something about 98 persons. At 1847 the Jewish population grew to 1635 persons and during the Russian Empire Population census at 1897 was counted 2682 Jewish people who constantly lived at Kanev.

Russian Empire Population census, 1897 was done for all of the country and each city, village and settlement was counted by the population. Of course, the Jewish people was also counted in it. But unfortunately, not all of the data was saved till our times.
As we remember that accordingly to the Population census we know that it was 2682 persons at Kanev, but… if you want to find any data regarding Jewish people at Kiev archive you will be able to find ONLY 6 Jewish families because all the other data was damaged during not so good history conditions at Ukraine.
